This absolutely stunning Belle Epoque ivory cream Silk Walking Coat is such a beauty, so elegant, it would have been a top of the range garment at the time, think of the Titanic era Edwardian 1910s, the time of the original Drape coat which the Teddy Boys later refashioned. The brocade detail is amazing on it and I understand this technique to be called Matelassé.
There are three detached buttons of a long oval mother of pearl with a brass or pinchbeck design on the front, shaped like a serpentine ‘S’ shape and engraved with flowers. The buttons would be attached by the dresser prior to the Lady wearing this coat.
The style itself is timeless and looks so modern, it could easily be worn today and would be ideal for a vintage wedding, introducing something old and classic couture. With absolute certainty nobody else will ever have the same thing.
